/.- Comm. 525. 1: 1978 MASS TRANSPORTATION AGENCY REPORT
From Mayor Herbert T. Matayoshi, dated
May 3, 1979 , submitting a copy of the 1978
Mass Transportation Agency Report on the
maintenance and management of the County bus
system. Because of the rapid rise in ridership
from January, 1976 to December, 1978 , indicating
public need and acceptance of the bus system,
recommends the Agency status be changed from
demonstration to permanent, making the Agency
eligible for Federal operating subsidies under
the Section 18 program.
The study further indicates that the maintenance
and management of the Agency be retrained thus
making Hawaii County eligible for Federal
construction funds should the decision be made
to build a modern, up-to-date maintenance
facility;
recommends the Communication be placed on file; and the present status
of the Mass Transportation Agency be retained.
