Dear Chairwoman Poindexter and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate Isaac Nahakuelua of Council District 1 to the Veterans
Advisory Committee. He was born and raised in Hilo. Mr. Nahakuelua is a US Army
Veteran having served.6 years of active duty including one year in Afghanistan. He is a
member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars #3830 and the Hawai'i Island Veterans
Memorial, Inc.
After serving our country, Mr. Nahakuelua took advantage of the GI Bill and went on to
earn a BA in Psychology from UH Hilo and a Masters in Social Work (MSW) from UH
Manoa. He is currently employed as a social worker in adult mental health with the
state's Department of Health. Mr. Nahakuelua is also a prolific artist.
Mr. Nahakuelua states he is not affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, he will
serve a term ending December 31, 2021.
