Dear Chairwoman Poindexter and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate Emile Wery of Council District 4 to the Veterans Advisory
Committee. Mr. Wery retired from the US Army after 35 years of service as a 1St
Sergeant combat infantryman. He is a Vietnam war and Korean Defense veteran. Mr.
Wery is a current member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Veteran of Foreign
Wars, Combat Infantry Association and the Big Island Retired Military Association
(BIRMA).
Mr. Wery attended 2 years of college while in the military and obtained a Liberal Arts
degree through a program with the University of Maryland. His past employment
includes being a job placement counselor with the Alu Like adult and summer youth
programs.
Mr. Wery was born and raised on Oahu and has lived on the Big Island for the past 15
years. He states he is not affiliated with any political party. Mr. Wery previously
served on the Veterans Advisory Board. If confirmed, he will serve a term ending
December 31, 2020.
