COVMTTEE ON ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Your Committee on Economic Development to which was referred:
Res. 30': STATE EXCISE TAX EXEMPTION
Urges the State Legislature to (1) adopt legislation extend-
ing the excise tax exemption on gasohol to 1992 to correspond
with the Federal exemption; and (2) grant additional incentives
by extending the exemption of the State excise tax on the
construction of alternate energy producing facilities and
consider providing for income tax credits for such facilities;
(Intr. by: Mrs. Hale and Mr. Dahlberg)
recommends Resolution 30 be amended as follows:
(1) Paragraph 6 to read:
"WHEREAS, the County of Hawaii supports and encourages the [Hilo
Coast Processing Company] sugar industry in [their] its efforts to explore
the potentials of alternate energy resources as a by-product of [their]
its sugar production operations. "
(2) Paragraph 7 to read:
"NOW,- THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII
that it urges the State Legislature to adopt legislation extending the
excise tax exemption on gasohol made with alcohol that is produced within
the State of Hawaii to 1992 to correspond with the Federal exemption. "
(3) Paragraph 8 be deleted:
["BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature consider granting addi-
tional incentives by extending the exemption of the State excise tax on the
construction of alternate energy producing facilities and that it further
consider providing for income tax credits for such facilities. "]
Further recommends Resolution 30 , as amended, be adopted-by- the 'Counc-il
