A.Lt_Comm. 890 : NEWS ARTICLE FROM THE "WALL STREET JOURNAL"
From John T. Jefferies, Director, Institute for
Astronomy, University of Hawaii at Manoa, dated
July 12 , 1982 , transmitting copy of an article
from the July 8 , 1982 Wall Street Journal,
entitled "View From the Top: How a Site is
Chosen For a New Telescope. "
Informs a good deal of effort would be needed to
establish the case for Mauna Kea and if the Council
favors this project, an expression of support might
• be very valuable;
recommends a resolution be prepared in support of a new 15-meter telescope
at Mauna Kea and request the Research & Development Director to work with
Dr. Jefferies on a plan of action to implement the project.
