Dear Chairwoman Poindexter and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate Bryant Y. Ching of District 7 to the Hawaii County's
Kailua Village Design Commission. Originally from Hawai'i, Mr. Ching is a retired
teacher who spent over 35 years teaching in the Los Angeles School District until he
returned home in 2010. He subsequently worked with the Hawai'i Department of
Education for 6 more years as a Vice Principal until his retirement in June, 2016. Mr.
Ching holds a Bachelor's of Education degree from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa
and a Master's of Arts degree from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA).
Although he spent many years on the mainland, Mr. Ching has strong ties to the Big
Island especially in North Kohala where his family roots began.
Mr. Ching is an active member of our island community and currently serves the Vice
President of the West Hawai'i Pony League and a member of the Design Review
Committee of the Pualani Estates Board.
Mr. Ching states he is not affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, he will serve to
fill a term ending June 30, 2019.
