To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing to voice my support for Bill 13. Hawaii is one of the most beautiful places in the entire world, yet
we need to do better in protecting our natural resources. This includes reducing the amount of styrofoam and
plastic littered around our beaches. Banning styrofoam food containers will help reduce the amount of appalling
non-biodegradable waste found in our oceans and shorelines.
I still remember my first trip to Bali, where I was so excited to snorkel and play in the water. Five minutes in, I
was swimming among plastic bags and pieces of trash. Fish were nibbling on this plastic. Suffice to say, I didn't
feel like eating seafood on that trip. We can't turn our backs on our environment and let Hawaii become
polluted like other destinations around the world without regulations.
We know better. We need to do better. As a consumer, I don't mind paying more for an eco-friendly container.
What is it, a measly 10 cents?
It's time to step up for our environment, natural resources and the future of our state. Please do whatever needs
to be done to ban styrofoam and know that I am just one of many, many supporters statewide.
Mahalo nui,
Rebecca
