Aloha County Council Members,
Hi. My name is Kaiulu Tiogangco. I am in favor of the ban on styrofoam for to go containers (Bill 13). I am in
7th grade at Kamehameha Schools. I had testified last year for a similar bill and I am here again at the front
lines to protect our mother earth. Styrofoam is toxic to our health. Also when it gets into the ocean fish and
sea life might think it is food and eat it and die. Styrofoam does not biodegrade. This is not good for our
already full landfill. We can do this. McDonalds, one of the biggest food companies in the world, stopped using
styrofoam worldwide in November, 02, 1990. Here we are 27 years later still using styrofoam!! People say
"aloha `aina" but then go to a store and buy takeout that comes in styrofoam. My family and I actually boycott
places that use styrofoam. We are also willing to pay the little it may cost to offset costs for the
company. Essentially, we are paying to take care of our island home and make choices that benefit the the
present and the future. Many small businesses in our islands are already using eco-friendly takeout containers
with no problems. This is an amazing opportunityfor us in Hawaii County to lead the state and the nation in
action. Please make the right vote. Pass the Ban on Styrofoam.
Sincerely, Kaiulu Tiogangco
