Aloha Council Members,
My name is Charlotte Leger and I am in favor of Bill 13 to ban styrofoam for to-go containers in Hawaii
County. I am a resident of this beautiful land and a trained marine biologist working in many Pacific Islands.
Styrofoam is a leading cause of toxic non-biodegradable plastics in our waters, eventually severely endangering
our wildlife and the systems they depend on. We already know this. Hawaii can be such a leader of safe and
sustainable progress and economy. In fact,these islands can be perfect models of what it means to do things
right, because we know in our gut what is the appropriate action. I believe in your intuition and your deep
understanding of our place in the natural world. We depend on Earth for our lives and we must feed her with
that understanding.
