Please consider this very important precedent setting Bill 13 as a step in the right direction to ban the use of polystyrene food containers. This bill will continue to lead Hawaii County on a pathway towards a zero-waste and sustainability for our island home. Given our consumption rates and our critical landfill issues, we on Hawaii Island need to step up our game when it comes to our waste stream. This bill is one way we address our landfill overload in conjunction with a plan to process compostable containers. Our family avoids restaurants that use Styrofoam food containers. We know it is toxic for our physical health as well as for the health of our island and marine ecosystem. Polystyrene is part of the big picture degradation to our fragile earth island. We support the many Hawaii Island small businesses that already use non-Styrofoam take out containers. Some examples are, Tina's Garden, Island Naturals, Lucy's,Naung Mai Thai, Loved By the Sun, Sweet Cane Cafe, Hilo Bay Cafe, Suisan, and Conscious Culture Cafe, just to name a few. And there are great and affordable alternatives to polystyrene!!! We need to mandate that companies use them in order to initiate this positive change. Please support Bill 13 Pp COUNTY CLERK Sincerely, COUNTY OF HAWAI® CEIVED Laura Clint Acasio Time ,f S RE B..y 371 Haili Street bate Hilo, Hawaii 96720 1 Oil, Ref. To:. kf Ref.. Date , ,, . ly 7
