Cindy Evans; seninouye@capitol.hawaii.gov; Richards, Tim Subject: Support for Bill 13 Aloha ! I Strongly Support Council Member Ohara's proposed Bill 13 in banning the use of Polystyrene (Styrofoam) from all County and Food Vendor's food containers and food serviceware. I believe that this Bill is great step in that the State Legislature has similar type Bills to Ban Styrofoam containers before them now. As an environmental, health and safety engineer, I can confirm that Polystyrene is VERY detrimental to marine and wildlife. These creatures on land and in the oceans ingest this material, cannot digest it and many times die. In addition, Polystyrene foam is not degradable, sitting for years and years on land, as well as in the oceans. This material ends up filling up are already full landfills on the Island, since it does not degrade. I encourage all of you to Vote in Favor of Bill 13 for our environment on land and in the sea. Mahalo for allowing me to share my comments and observations. Respectfully Mark Gordon Waikoloa, HI Comm. N®. 1011100 Ref. To: in LW- 1 Ref. Date AR 0 8-27,---1-
