Aloha Council Members,
I love Hawaii Island!! My daughter and son-in-law are business owners in Hilo (they operate a restaurant) and my heart
is there. I want a clean Hawaii environment for my future grandchildren and everyone else's.
Therefore, I strongly support this bill for four main reasons: human health, animal health, environment, and costs.
Polystyrene leaches carcinogens that endanger human health.This light material blows into waterways and breaks down
easily,endangering all kinds of marine life that think it is food.Styrofoam litter spoils the beautiful pristine environment
on which our recreational economy depends; Hawaii uses more styrofoam per capital than any other state. Finally, the
costs of removal of styrofoam from storm sewers and waste streams is enormous.The additional cost of sustainable
substitutes are insignificant compared to the above benefits.
Please support this bill as a necessary piece of legislation to protect our beautiful and irreplaceable Aina. Malama Aina!
