Aloha,
I would like to express my support for Bill 13, reducing food Styrofoam products. This bill needs to be passed
this time around. I am a stand up paddler, and on a daily basis I pull foam products out of Hilo Bay. These
things NEVER biodegrade -they harm wildlife,they eventually harm humans, and it's just plain ugly to look
at. I've walked on Coconut Island on busy weekends and the trash bins are overflowing with foam. These
eventually will end up in the bay due to weather and wildlife dragging them around. They take up space in our
already limited landfill. Why must we continue to use this product?
More environmentally friendly products are available, and I will happily bear the small additional cost. I know
which restaurants and stores use alternative packaging, and I prefer to support those businesses.
Please do the right thing and support Bill 13.
