I was born and raised in Pawaii and stayed through the hard and difficult times. While others moved away to
seek a better way of life. My husband has lived here since 1983. We are hardworking tax payers,honest, law
abiding citizens, and do what we can to protect our precious place we call home. My husband turned 61 years
old this February,looking forward to the property tax break. We have been home owners for 25 years.We can
afford to stay in Pawaii because we are cautious and watch how we spend our money. I have a younger son who
moved home from being-away-from I-lawaii for many-years he is strugglingto find a place to buyand my-older
son moved away for a better job and was able to purchase a home in Washington State.
1.work in the Waikoloa-Peach Resort area, at least one visitor a day-will-tell-me-how beautiful-it is here-and that
they are planing on moving to our island. I walk everyday in Waikoloa Village, one of the highest property tax
areas.From time to time I would be stopped by-mainlanders while on mywalk,theyask me about property.taxes
in Pawaii,and they're looking for property to buy. They would tell me that our property taxes are very low and
back home in Oregon or where ever their from,property.taxes are very,high.
We have been hopeful that a relief in our increased exemption could possibly mean a reduction in property tax
fees could actual happen. Powever after'reading the article in the WestPawaii Today about increasing property
taxes,the hope is fading:This'means one sfep forward ten steps backwards:
Our businesses are.suffering due to a lack of workforce a lot of our Kama'aina families moved away. Our
children are being priced out of Pawaii because our politicians aren't doing enough to help keep them here. And
we could end up with no work force to serve the high-end.
Our politicians need to really take a look at what they're doing about protecting those of us that paid into taxes
for many years. The only people that are getting a break are those who are moving here from
somewhere else. (how does this happen? Very frustrating that a tax break for the longtime locals are just
being-thought of now.We make it to easy.for others to move here. We should be taking-care of the long.time fax
payers to make sure they have housing before the rest. Pow is it that our state government make high-end
developments a priority?
Solution:(feel that new property owners that come from elsewhere should take on the tax burden for
several years,no homeowner tax exemptions. 4 gradual homeowner exemption-would-kick in after.-

government will be able to fund the budget.'

To touch on the subject on homelessness in 1-4awaii, cause I feel it inner twines together. Our kama'aina families,
Kapuna's,.and Veteran's need your help! None of them should be homeless. Take a little piece land,build a safe,.
garage size structure, out door showers, solar panels. They don't need much just some place to call home. Sure
would look better then tents on the side of the streets or on our beautiful beaches. It would cost less then moving.
place to place and the cost of constant clean up.Sure this sounds easy, because it is! Make reasonable rules
and laws,help them understand with this comes,responsibility. Sure beats living in a tent.Make this a priority!
Finally I got this out there, I hope someone will listen.
