RF: FUEL TAX ON LIQUID FUEL RATES OPPOSITION
The proposed fuel tax is a 20th century solution for a 2.7,x+ century problem.
• Mileage standards have increased, and cars no longer consume as much
liquid fuel as in the past.
• Electric and hybrid, cars will not pay their fair share to sustain our
roads and highways. Discriminates against those who cannot afford
electric or hybrid cars.
• It's not clear if this tax will solely be'used to sustain our roads and
highways.
T would favor lobbying the State Legislature to allow a permanent local GET,
such as Honolulu had for its rail.
• I believe that would be fair for all residents, unlike fuel or property
taxes.
• Visitors would contribute their share.
• Government can predetermine/target percentages of the revenue for
anticipated expenses, e.g. 50% for salaries, 25% for road or park
maintenance, etc. , based on prior years' receipts.
Thank you for the opportunity for public input.
Sincerely,
