County Gas Tax Hearing
I support the recommendation to increase the county gas tax as proposed.
As the gas tax has not been raised since 1988, the county and township roads have
become inadequate to meet the everyday increase in population and use; in disrepair in
many place to the point of being un safe and damaging.
There will be those that state such an increase in the fuel tax is regressive, and I would
agre. However the perhaps $80-120-00 per year in additional cost is small in
comparison to perhaps as much as $1,000.00 for frontend alignments, tire repair and/or
replacements, and shock absorber replacements, and other repairs as necessary due to
the vibration and or defective payment we all encounter damaging our vehicles.
Along with this increase should come a change in procedures for road maintenance as
well by the Transportation Department, however that is another topic for discussion.
