Subject: Resolution 212 Draft 2 Testimony
Importance: High
Dear Council Chairwoman Poindexter and other County Council members,
I urge you to support draft two of Resolution 212, which was revised to increase the fuel tax much more slowly, and was
amended by Councilwoman O'Hara. The latter amendment added a transparency clause to the resolution. This clause
requires the Department of Public Works and Mayor's office to submit the following information: can
C
-Amount generated by fuel tax increase
.43
C)
-Information how this adding funding will be distributed to all the districts -mc)
rn
-Transportation projects that will be funded by this increase on an annual basis c9
-Timelines that detail when the addition fuel tax funding will be used
The DPW Highways Division tries to address as much of these roadway issues with the limited amount of fuel tax funding
it currently receives. However, these hot spots have been getting worse over time because of deferred maintenance .
This proposed increase will help the Highways Division with their mission to address these issues in a more timely
manner.
I've heard concerns about economic impact this increase will have on our residents, especially in rural areas. As it stands
now,the county's mass transit system is pretty much out of service, and the condition of the county's roadway
infrastructure is mostly deplorable.
These deficiencies negatively impact our transportation system, and consequently economic growth. If people, goods,
and services, can't get around this island island in a timely manner, it will hinder our economy.
I firmly believe keeping our transportation infrastructure (roads and rapid transit) healthy is key to keeping our economy
growing.
Sincerely,
Aaron Stene
