Directly asking your State of Hawaii Representatives and Senators to help this program stay on it's feet and NOT BE REDUCED TO a$50 Voucher issued by HCEOC(who will get the Fed's$100,000)to be used at some Farmer's Market at a retail cost rather than a wholesale amount of produce from local farmers, as usual. "Robbing Peter to pay Paul" is not a program. The State of Hawaii, Dept of Labour, Community Services has destroyed this program by issuing a "NEW" RFP that effectively ended the old program. Food Basket could not AFFORD to apply! Only the Federal money is being applied while the State and County are sitting on their hands. The additional$123,000, divided by nine is$13,722.22 each of contingency funds to save this program. But Really the state should cover half of this money just to be fair. Please call your State counter partners and suggest their participation. The ELDERS SHOULD NOT GO HUNGRY! Anyone who understands how the three layers of Government can partner together to help us,the citizens, please contact me. I will be discussing this on Radio at the end of this month. Toby S.
