RE: Testimony in Opposition to Including Pana'ewa Park in County of Hawaii Bill No. 47
We are opposed to including Pana'ewa Park in County of Hawaii Bill No.47.
No one from the County Council consulted our community on this Bill.
This is the same situation that occurred when the County planned to build a composting facility
in our community. No one had the respect to take the time to come to our community and
discuss this issue with us.
If you had taken the time to talk to our community, we would have informed you that
Pana'ewa has a Pana'ewa Farmers Market located on Railroad Avenue.
Our Pana'ewa Farmers Market is located within one mile of the Pana'ewa Park that is identified
in this bill.
The Keaukaha Pana'ewa Farmers Association has invested over$7,000 to clear the Pana'ewa
Farmers Market site, install a fence, waterline, and tents. We have budgeted another$20,000
to hire a Farmers Market Manager by August;to increase our vendors;expand our parking; and
for marketing/advertising costs which includes changing all our Railroad Avenue signage.
Another Farmers Market in our community is not needed. In fact, it would be detrimental to
the operations of our current Pana'ewa Farmers Market. We would have to compete not only
for customers, but for vendors.
Please remove "Pana'ewa Park"from Bill 47.
Sincerely,
ate. E
