HomeMy WebLinkAboutREP PWPRC 006 2017/06/22 (2016-2018) REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC WORKS AND PARKS AND RECREATION DATE: June 22, 2017 Re: Comm.No. 319 PLACE: Council Chambers Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i TIME: 10:37 a.m. Council Chair and Members Hawai`i County Council Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 Your Committee on Public Works and Parks and Recreation, to which was referred Communication No. 319, reports as follows: Communication No. 319, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated May 31, 2017, nominates Minoru Hanato of District 7 to the Veterans Advisory Committee. He served in the United States Marine Corps.from 1963-1969. He is also a Vietnam veteran and member of the Disabled American Veterans Kona Chapter#7. Mr. Hanato retired as a businessman and was a proprietor of Hanato Tofu Factory for many years. If confirmed, he would serve a term ending December 31, 2021. Ms. Barbara Kossow, Deputy Managing Director to Mayor Kim, introduced Nominee Hanato. Mr. Hanato appeared before the full Council and offered a summary of his expertise and responded to questions from Council Members. Several Council Members commented in favor of Mr. Hanato. The vote was then taken with nine Council Members voting "aye" for Mr. Hanato's nomination. Pursuant to Chapter 15, Article 7, Section 15-61 of the Hawai`i County Code, the Mayor shall appoint, with the approval of Council, a representative from various veteran organizations to serve on the Veterans Advisory Committee.
