No. 320 PLACE: Council Chambers Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i TIME: 10:37 a.m. Council Chair and Members Hawai`i County Council Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 Your Committee on Public Works and Parks and Recreation,to which was referred Communication No. 320, reports as follows: Communication No. 320, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated May 31, 2017, nominates Isaac Nahakuelua of District 1 to the Veterans Advisory Committee. Mr. Nahakuelua is a United States Army veteran, having served six years of active duty including one year in Afghanistan. He is a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars #3830 and the Hawai`i Island Veterans Memorial, Inc. Mr.Nahakuelua is currently employed as a social worker in adult mental health with the state's Department of Health. If confirmed, he would serve a term ending December 31, 2021. Ms. Barbara Kossow, Deputy Managing Director to Mayor Kim, introduced Nominee Nahakuelua. Mr.Nahakuelua appeared in the Hilo Chambers, via videoconferencing,and offered a summary of his expertise and responded to questions from Council Members. Several Council Members commented in favor of Mr. Nahakuelua. The vote was then taken with nine Council Members voting "aye." Pursuant to Chapter 15, Article 7, Section 15-61 of the Hawai`i County Code,the Mayor shall appoint, with the approval of Council, a representative from various veteran organizations to serve on the Veterans Advisory Committee.
