Your Subcommittee on Beautification submits for approval, the following
report:
Comm. 1169 : 'BEAUTIFICATION REPORT
From Chairwoman Helene H. Hale, Subcommittee on
Beautification, dated March 18, 1983, reporting on
the goals and objectives of the' advisory committee
for beautification of our island.
1169 . 1 : From Chairwoman Helene H. Hale, Subcommittee on
Beautification, dated March 28 , 1983 , submitting an
updated beautification report;,
recommends the following objectives of the Subcommittee on Beautification
be approved:
(1) eliminate litter in public places, roads, parks and public facilities ;
(2) prevent disposal of garbage on private and public land;
(3) improve maintenance of roadsides including grasscutting, tree trimming
and shoulder improvement and judicious use of poison spray;
(4) proper disposal of abandoned vehicles;
(5) beautify roadside with appropriate plants for the area;

(6) develop special scenic areas with control to protect the area;
(7) encourage involvement of community groups in the beautification
program; and
(8) encourage cooperation of State and County governments in keeping
the roadsides clean, especially the tourist-oriented areas.
