Dear Chairwoman Poindexter and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate Michaela Ikeuchi of Council District 7 to the Kailua Village
Design Commission. Ms. Ikeuchi currently attends Hawai'i Community College at
Palamanui and hopes to graduate in 2018 with an AA degree in Liberal Arts. She is also
employed at Gypsea Gelato in Kealakekua and is a 2016 graduate of the West Hawai'i
Exploration Academy in Kailua-Kona.
Michaela was born in Hawai'i and moved to the mainland with her family when she was 6 years
old. The family returned home to Hawai'i 3 years ago after 10 years of living in Washington
State. Michaela is a native Hawaiian who has deep roots in the Kona area. At a young age,
Michaela is passionate about serving her community and is interested in seeing development
projects and how they impact a community. She currently volunteers as a museum docent at
the Hulihe'e Palace and is an active member of the Daughters of Hawai'i and Friends of Amy
Greenwell Ethnobotanical Garden.
Ms. Ikeuchi states she is not affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, she will fill
the remaining term of Ms. Fanny Au Hoy, a departing commissioner, for a term ending
December 31, 2017. She will subsequently be eligible to apply for a full 3-year term.
