Your Committee on Planning to which was referred:
Comm. 1074: FIREWORKS
From Councilwoman Helene H. Hale dated January 7 , 1983,
suggesting reducing the hours for use of fireworks , and
strengthening the law and particularly, enforcement where
fireworks are not allowed on public streets.
10741: From Chief of Police Guy A. Paul dated February 18 , 1983 ,
commenting on changes needed in the fireworks law;
accept recommendation of the Police Chief to amend the Fireworks Control
Ordinance to: (1) prohibit the use of Roman candles; (2) prohibit the
use of helicopter-type rockets and any other type of fireworks which fly
through the air; (3) change the hours during which the use of fireworks
is permitted for New Years , Chinese New Years and the Fourth of July;
and (4) change the number of days during which fireworks may be purchased
to five calendar days prior to all three occasions.
It is recommended that the hours of permissible use of fireworks be as
follows:
New Year' s Eve - 12 noon to 1: 00 a.m.

New Year 's Day - 7 :00 a.m. to 7 : 00 p.m.
Chinese New Year' s Eve - 7 :00 p.m. to 1 : 00 a.m.
Fourth of July - 7 : 00 p.m. to 1: 00 a.m.
Further, an ordinance bill be prepared to reflect the above changes.
