Your Committee on Planning to which was referred Resolution No.
877-84 , relating to W. H. Shipman, Ltd. ' s reclassification petition,.
reports as follows:
The purpose of this resolution is to endorse W. H. Shipman, Ltd. ' s
pending petition to the State Land Use Commission to reclassify 490
acres of land in Puna from an agricultural to an urban classification
and to direct the Planning Department to initiate a consistent
general plan change.
The boundaryamendment will permit Shipman to develop an industrial
park with either lease or fee simple parcels. The proposed 490-acre
industrial park would stimulate economic growth and development for
the Island of Hawaii.
Your Committee on Planning has amended the resolution to delete the
second "Be it resolved" clause which directs the Planning Department
to initiate a General Plan amendment for the proposed industrial
park . The Committee feels this is premature since the Planning
Department has not received any petition to reclassify the property.
The Committee concurs with the intent and purpose of Resolution
No. 877-84 , as revised, and recommends its adoption.
The above action was adopted at the Committee meeting of
April 11, 1984 by the following vote:
In Favor : Committee members Fujii, Hale, Kawahara, and
Schutte
Opposed: None
Absent and Excused: Committee members Dahlberg, De Luz , and
Lai
