COMMITTEE ON PLANNING
DATE: June 26, 1984
TIME: 1:30 p.m.
PLACE: County Councilroom, Hilo
Chairman and Members
Hawaii County Council
Hilo, Hawaii
Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Resolution 938-84
regarding sign waving, reports as follows :
The purpose of this resolution is to urge all participants in the
1984 elections in the County of Hawaii to voluntarily refrain from
sign waving on our roads and thoroughfares and encourage compliance
with the provisions of Section 3-32(D) of the Hawaii County Code,
relating to political campaign signs.
Sign waving has become a popular campaign method by many candidates
in recent elections. However, sign wavers along our busy streets
distract passing motorists and create an extreme safety hazard.
Your committee is concerned about the safety and well-being of both
motorists and pedestrians . As such, your committee favors
voluntarily refraining from sign waving on our streets and roads.
Your Committee on Planning concurs with Resolution 938-84 and
recommends its adoption.
