Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Bill No. 1127,
entitled: "An Ordinance Amending Section 23-49, Division 4,
Article 3, Chapter 23 (Subdivision Code) of the Hawaii County Code
1983, As Amended, Relating to Street Names" , and Resolution 960-84
adopting Exhibit A as the street naming policy, reports as follows :
The purpose of Bill No. 1127 is to stipulate that street names
conform to the adopted policy of the County and to eliminate
duplicate street names. Resolution 960-84 adopts Exhibit A as the
street naming policy of the County.
Although the Code does not require a street naming policy, there isa
need for such policy. Further , to avoid confusion, streets within
the entire County should not have duplicate names. The street naming
policy of the County Of Hawaii is outlined in Exhibit A as attached
to Resolution 960-84.
Your committee agrees with the communication from the Kona Historical
Society proposing that reference be given to names of places ,
persons, or events historically or traditionally associated with the
ahuapua 'a in which the street principally lies. Your committee has
amended Exhibit A of Resolution No. 960-84 to reflect the proposed
change.
Your Committee on Planning is in accord with the intent and purpose
of Bill No. 1127 and Resolution No. 960-84 and recommends their
approval.
