Your Committee on Public Works and Parks and Recreation,to which was referred Res. No. 236-17,
reports as follows:
Resolution No. 236-17, transmitted by Public Works Director Frank De Marco, via Communication 346
dated June 16, 2017, requests approval of a variance from Chapter 3, Section 3-10(a)Hawai`i County
Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as amended), to allow one ground sign at 1248 Kino`ole Street, Hilo, Hawai`i,
96720, Tax Map Key: (3) 2-2-023:010 (zoned "RS" Residential District). The sign exceeds the six
square feet area limitation set forth in the County Code.
The applicant states (1) the sign will not visually impede the views of adjoining properties, (2) the sign
will not confer any special or added benefit to one establishment over another, (3) the sign will be large
enough to notify drivers of the location of Kino`ole Medical Center, and (4) granting the variance will
not adversely affect the rights of the adjacent property owners.
There were no questions about this approval request.
Your Committee on Public Works and Parks and Recreation is in accord with the purpose and intent of
Resolution No. 236-17, and recommends its adoption.
