Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication No. 356, reports as
follows:
Communication No. 356, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated July 12, 2017, nominates
Michaela Ikeuchi of Council District 7 to the Hawai`i County Kailua Village Design
Commission.
Ms. Rose Bautista, Executive Assistant to Mayor Kim, introduced Ms. Ikeuchi who appeared via
videoconference from the Kona Council Office. Ms. Ikeuchi is a native Hawaiian with deep
roots in the Kona area. Ms. Ikeuchi states that she is not affiliated with any political party, and if
confirmed,would fill a term ending December 31, 2017.
Several Council Members commented in favor of Ms. Ikeuchi's nomination. The vote was then
taken with eight Council Members voting"aye." Chair Eoff stated that Ms. Ikeuchi does not
need to appear at the Council meeting on August 16, 2017, for confirmation of her appointment.
Pursuant to Article 7, Division 1, Section 25-7-2 of the Hawai`i County Code, the Kailua Village
Design Commission shall consist of nine members, and shall be appointed by the Mayor and
approved by the Council.
Your Committee on Planning is in accord with the purpose and intent of Communication
No. 356, and recommends confirmation of the appointment of Michaela Ikeuchi to the Hawai`i
County Kailua Village Design Commission.
