PROJECTED FUEL TAX REVENUE INCREASE Effective starting August 1, 2017 the County fuel tax rate increases from 8.8 cents per gallon to 15 cents per gallon. For fiscal year 2017-2018, the County of Hawaii expects to collect 10 months of additional revenue which is projected to be approximately $4,600,000. UTILIZATION OF THE FUNDS The Utilization of funds_will be mainly focused on: replenishing the emergency fund, funding the increase in S&W and fringe benefits consistent with the union contracts, investing in equipment and other resources that will create operational efficiencies, and funding materials for road resurfacing, school safety, mass transit, and traffic safety projects. ROAD RESURFACING PROJECTS: The projects listed below are in addition to the normal road maintenance schedule and daily operational services provided by the Highways Division. Projected timelines and funding requirements are projections and are subject to change based on unforeseen factors such as weather,staffing, equipment availability, material cost, emergency response and scope of project changes. The Local Road Improvement program allocates fuel tax revenue per district based on that district's percentage of the total county road miles.
