Your Committee on Public Works and Parks and Recreation,, to which was referred
Communication No. 358, reports as follows:
Communication No. 358, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated July 13, 2017, nominates
Dale Wilson, Ph.D. to the Veterans Advisory Committee. Dr. Wilson is a retired US Army major and a
Vietnam veteran who received the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Army
Commendation medal.
Dr. Wilson retired from the military after 22 years of service and was wounded in combat. He was
assigned to various military assignments before becoming an Assistant Professor of History at the US
Military Academy at West Point,N.Y. Dr. Wilson holds an M.A. and a Ph. D. in History from Temple
University. Dr. Wilson came to Hawaii in the '70s when he was stationed at Schofield Barracks, Oahu
for 3 years. He has lived in Hawai'i for the past 17 years. If confirmed, he would serve a term ending
December 31, 2020.
Ms. Rose Bautista, Executive Assistant to Mayor Kim, introduced Nominee Dr. Wilson. She offered a
summary of his experience, and Dr. Wilson responded to questions from Council Members.
Pursuant to Chapter 15, Article 7, Section 15-61 of the Hawaii County Code, the Mayor shall appoint,
with the approval of Council, a representative from various veteran associations to serve on the Veterans
Advisory Committee.
Your Committee on Public Works and Parks and Recreation is in accord with the purpose and intent of
Communication No. 358, and recommends confirmation of the appointment of Dale Wilson Ph.D., to
the Veterans Advisory Committee.
