Your Committee on Public Works and Parks and Recreation,to which was referred Bill 58,
reports as follows:
Bill 58, transmitted by Frank DeMarco, Director of Public Works, via Communication 375 dated
July 6, 2017, amends Chapter 24, Article 10 Division 1, of the Hawai`i County Code 1983
(2016 Edition, as amended), relating to Speed Limits. Bill 58 amends Schedule 3 (25 mile per
hour limit) and Schedule 5 (35 mile per hour limit) Subsection(g), Puna,by increasing the speed
limit from 25 to 35 miles per hour for a portion of South Kopua Road.
Committee Chair Ruggles pointed out that residents of Eden Roc subdivision and South Kopua
Road support this measure. There was no further discussion.
Your Committee on Public Works and Parks and Recreation is in accord with the purpose and
intent of Bill No. 58, and recommends its passage on first reading.
