Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 244-17, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 244-17, transmitted by Council Member Valerie Poindexter, via Communication
No. 369 dated July 14, 2017, authorizes the Office of the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the
Office of Research Services, University of Hawai`i.
The agreement would provide$25,000 from the Department of Research and Development to fund the
AgVenture program. The program increases agricultural awareness by supplementing fourth grade
classes with events focusing on agricultural careers and entrepreneurial opportunities.
Council Member Sue Lee Loy made a motion to amend Resolution 244-17 with the content of
Communication No. 369.1. The amendment was adopted by Your Committee.
Council Chair Maile David clarified that the amendment was requested by the university so that it would
be easier in the execution of any documents under this contract.
Pursuant to Section 46-7 of the Hawai`i Revised Statutes, the Mayor of the County of Hawai`i is
authorized to execute, on behalf of the County, an agreement and related documents with Arizona State
University to provide aid to the County as described above.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 244-17, as
amended to Draft 2, and recommends its adoption.
