Your Committee on Finance to which was referred:
£,;_ Comm. 611: HOKE VS. PAUL, CIVIL NO. 5064
From Assistant Corporation Counsel Patricia K. O'Toole
dated December 11, 1981 informing, following Council
authorization on May 31, 1978 , the County entered
into an agreement with James Koshiba to act as
Special Counsel for Police Chief Guy Paul in the
subject civil action and approved the expenditure
of $50 , 000 for this purpose. On February 5 , 1979
the firm of Carlsmith, Carlsmith, Wichman and Case
entered into an agreement to act as Special Counsel
following the withdrawal of Mr. Koshiba. The
balance remaining in the account ($38 , 931. 91) will
not cover part of the work already performed by
Special Counsel, nor will it cover the remaining
work which needs to be performed to complete the
appeal. Therefore, requests that the Council
authorize an amendment to the contract to add the
sum of $7 , 000 to cover the legal services required
for the case currently on appeal before the Supreme
Court ;
recommends Council grant authorization to amend the contract of
_Special Counsel to add the sum of $7 ,000 to cover the legal services
required on Civil No . 5064.
