Your Committee on Finance to which were referred:
Comm. 764 : FUNDING FOR BOAT DAY
From Helene H. Hale, Chairwoman, Subcommittee on
Tourism, dated April 22 , 1982 , proposing that $10 ,000
be taken out of G-.1728 , Manganese Nodule, or some
other account , G-8551, Contingency, to carry on the
Boat Day programs at Hilo and Kona until they can
come up with a matching grant proposal to present to
the business community;
/ , e_ 764. 1: Copy of letter to Mayor Matayoshi from FC Chairman
Fujii dated May 3 , 198.2 referring C-764 to adminis-
tration for inclusion as part of the County' s
tourism promotion efforts . Informs it is his under-
standing that there will be two ocean liners servicing
the State of Hawaii; thus , in order to maximize the
benefits of the expenditure, recommends that any
redundancy be avoided by having the Hilo and Kona
groups service separate ships ;
recommends Council support the proposal and that the administration
favorably consider the inclusion of funds to continue the boat day
programs at Hilo and Kona as part of the County' s tourism promotion
efforts .
Further recommends the Council extends its appreciation to Councilwomen
Hale and Lai for personally funding the boat day activities .
