Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Bill No. 1147,
reports as follows :
The purpose of Bill No. 1147 is to appropriate $106 ,000 from the Fund
Balance in the General Fund to various equipment accounts as follows :
PW-Division Automotive Equipment $ 26,000
PW-Construction Inspection-Equipment 5 ,000
PW-Solid Waste Disposal-Equipment 75,000
TOTAL $106 ,000
The appropriations are being requested based on recommendations from
operating units participating in the Quality Circles program.
Specific requests are as follows:
Street Sweeper $ 75 ,000
Diagnostic Computer 16, 000
Heavy Duty Brake Lathe 10 ,000
Construction Inspector ' s Automobile 5,000
TOTAL $106 ,000

A new street sweeper is needed to replace the sweeper presently used
which is plagued with mechanical problems . The diagnostic computer
is needed to analyze engine problems in order to expedite the return
of equipment to users . The brake lathe is needed to expand the
repair shop' s capabilities, thereby reducing the need to contract out
repair work . The automobile is needed to replace an inspector ' s car
that was a total loss as the result of an accident . (The additional
$2,500 needed for the car purchase will be theinsurance payment from
the negligent party. ) These equipment purchases will help to
increase productivity and cost savings .
Your Committee on Finance concurs with the intent and purpose of
Bill No. 1147 and recommends that it pass first reading .
