The purpose of Bill 270 is to establish an islandwide emergency response telephone system. The County of Hawaii remains the only county without a "911" emergency telephone response service . With the installation of computerized telephone switching equipment at the Hawaiian Telephone central office , an improved "Enhanced 911 " service could be available for the same cost of a "911" . The $36,500 appropriation will be for initial telephone company equipment reconfiguration cost . Other attendant costs will be included as part of the operating budget . Annual recurring costs for the necessary answering console and allied- equipment would be about $157,920 per year . Hopefully, a basic "911" and limited "E911" would be available by early 1988 . Your Committee on Finance is not in accord with the intent and purpose of Bill 270 and recommds that it be filed . FRANK DE LUZ III, CHAIRMAN ar.- 6 LORRA +.E R. I AKU-INOU '`, V. C. 1.104k. K.
