SUBJECT: Request for an Update by the Department of Water Supply's
Manager-Chief Engineer, Keith Okamoto, regarding Kona's Water Emergency
We are requesting an hour of time for an update from the Department of Water Supply regarding
Kona's water emergency since the break-down of the Honokohau Deepwell.
Keith Okamoto, Manager-Chief Engineer, will provide a repair update of the Honokohau well,
and other wells. He will explain the steps that the Department of Water Supply is taking to
ensure that this situation will not happen in the future, and provide investigatory information as
to the possible causes of these breakdowns.
We are requesting that this matter be placed on the appropriate committee agenda during for
September 6, 2017, at the Hilo Council Chambers.
