Re: Capital Budget
The Hawai`i Fire Department is requesting to add an appropriation to Ordinance 17-40, the
Capital Budget, for their Haihai Fire Station project. Enclosed is a bill for an ordinance to
add the project titled"Haihai Fire Station(Kawailani Station Replacement)" and to
appropriate $154,000 to the Capital Budget for this project.

A. REQUEST:
An ordinance to amend Ordinance No. 17-40, the Capital Budget, as amended by adding an appropriation:
Haihai Fire Station (Kawailani Station Replacement) $154,000.
B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
The appropriation is required to complete the construction project. This is a re-appropriation of the project's
balance.

9. CAPITAL PROJECT ELIGIBIILTY(List Criteria): New building construction
10. PROJECT/PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:Construction of a replacement fire station; The road improvements to Kawailani Street(including traffic light improvements to the Kawailani/Iwalani intersection)
will encroach on the station's property and bring the roadway close to the building. Either relocation or extensive modification of the existing station is needed for continued safe fire station operations.
11. PROJECT JUSTIFICATION&OUTCOME(S)(List all that apply): Contructions of replacement station to deal with the impact of Kawailani Street improvements and the resulting expansion of the
existing road. The fire fighters dorm room and apparatus bay(fire truck garage)will both be negatively affected by the road changes. The close proximity of the new roadway will make both the dorm
and garage unsafe. This project will allow for the development of a safe fire station.
