Dear Councilwoman Poindexter and other Honorable Council Members,
The Hawaii County Council is slated to vote on the county dedication of the privately constructed Kohanaiki
Shores frontage road on Wednesday August 2, 2017 (Resolution 234).The acceptance of this roadway shouldn't be the
end of the discussion. NELHA is constructing a frontage road segment between Makako Bay Drive and Kaiminani Drive.
There is segment of undeveloped land in between this roadway and Kohanaiki Shores frontage road,which would allow
both of these roads to be connected.
If this roadway extension is constructed, it will help improve improve traffic circulation in this part of North
Kona, and provide an alternative route in the event of a car accident on Queen Kaahumanu Highway.As it stands now,
there is no plans to construct this roadway extension. However, I hope the current county administration closely looks at
this, and sees the merits of connecting both of these frontage roads.
