RESOLUTION NO. 265 17
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HAWAIIAN
SANCTUARY INC. TO ASSIST WITH COSTS RELATED TO ITS PLANT ALOHA
PROJECT.
WHEREAS, Hawaiian Sanctuary Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is a 44-acre,
eco-rejuvenation center dedicated to providing experiential education in the areas of health and
wellness, social permaculture, leadership, sustainability, and personal and collective growth; and
WHEREAS, Hawaiian Sanctuary Inc. has initiated a project called Plant Aloha, which
provides a year-long series of free classes on sustainable farming systems, including
permaculture, Korean Natural Farming, Jadam Organic Farming, and traditional Native
Hawaiian cultural planting methods; and
WHEREAS, Hawaiian Sanctuary Inc. is requesting funds to assist with consultant and
lecturer fees to continue offering free sustainable farming classes; and
WHEREAS,the Plant Aloha project falls within the Department of Research and
Development's mission to facilitate leadership and education to communities that support and
promote agricultural sustainability; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Department of
Research and Development to provide a grant to Hawaiian Sanctuary Inc. to assist with costs
related to its Plant Aloha project.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Research and Development and Director of Finance, and that the
Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the
terms of this resolution.
