Subject: Support our Local Gun range
Hello, I'm just sending this email in support of a gun range here on the Big Island of Hawaii. I'm a leisurely
hunter but also a firearm enthusiast. I feel this island desperately needs a gun range due to a few reasons. One
major reason I can think of is for hunters, we need to zero our rifles to make sure we can hit game with one shot
placed in the kill zone of the animal. We have no where to do that, so a lot of times we'll go into a hunting area
to do it but yet we'll get into trouble with DLNR even though they too are aware of what we're trying to
achieve! So then we'll find a friend that has acreage and try and do it there, which again depending on location
and neighbors HPD may get called. As far as enthusiasts go,there is a lot of awesome shooters in Hawaii, but
yet we have nowhere to practice if some of us want to enter National Gun Matches in the states. Not to mention
it is a national past time just as Baseball is. On another note, we are the largest island with the most acreage (all
the other islands fit on our island) and year we are the only island without a gun range!! But yet we allow the
military to do live fire training and such at Pohakuloa Training Area, kind of a kick in the face to us locals if
you ask me!! I'm just asking that you guys give some REAL thought to this gun range and the good it will bring
to a variety of people.
