Also own/operate multiple businesses in Hilo. Along with the above, I'm a volunteer board Director with the (DIA) Downtown Improvement association and a board member for the Hilo Skate Plaza Coalition. The following testimonial is something that is very important for the youth of our community. I encourage our community and our state to see how valuable a skate boarding and roller skating park is for our kids and adults alike. Skating is a crime in Hilo, and not permitted. Although people are welcome to ride bikes on our sidewalks. If you are going to make a recreation and a form of transportation illegal, I believe you are obligated to create a safe facility for these athletes to practice and achieve. As you all most-likely know Hilo is the 2nd largest city in Hawaii. We should have a skatepark. Also, it should not be paid for just from donations, this is a nationally recognized sport, and should be a priority for our community. The amount of money spent on other parks such as baseball fields, basketball courts, etc. (county spending) are not required to be completely funded by donations and nonprofits. A skatepark should be treated with the same importance and the youth should be allotted a safe place to thrive with there hobbies. Please build a SkatePark for our youth!!
