Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication 656,
reports as follows :
The purpose of Communication 656 is to solicit comments from the
various counties regarding a Hawaii State Association of Counties
(HSAC) bill which relates to the remission of taxes in case of
certain disasters .
The bill would specifically amend Chapter 19, Article 4,
Section 19-36, Hawaii County Code, by qualifying certain hurricane,
wind disaster victims for property tax refunds . The proposed bill
would also offer fire victims property tax refunds when damaged or
destroyed real property was not repaired or replaced within six
months of the fire .
Your Committee on Finance supports in concept the proposed amendment
relating to remission of taxes in cases of certain disasters and that
a copy of the committee report be forwarded to
Mr . Stephen K. Yamashiro, Member, HSAC Real Property Tax Committee .
