HomeMy WebLinkAboutREP FC 188 07/02/1986 1984-1988 a1� REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE ON FINANCE Date: June 24, 1986 Place: Councilroom Time: 9:00 a.m. Chairman and Members Hawaii County Council Hilo, Hawaii 96720 Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution 182-86, reports as follows: The purpose of Resolution 182-86 is to designate $2,100,000 to be received from the State as grants-in-aid for infrastructural and/or tourism related activities as follows: A. Park Maintenance $800,000 Maintenance of beach parks and other parks often used by visitors . B. Hoolulu Park Complex $100,000 Maintenance and operations of the various facilities located at the complex used for events by residents and visitors . C. Aquatics $200,000 Lifeguard services at beach parks and pool facilities . D. Police $300,000 The Kailua Village Task Force and the beach and park patrols continue to provide a safe environment for residents and visitors . E. Highway Maintenance $700,000 Maintenance and improvements to the County roadways for a safe and aesthetically pleasing environment . The monies have been provided by Section 214A of the Supplemental Appropriations Act of 1986. The grants-in-aid monies may be used to strengthen activities related to tourism, such as the beautification and security of park facilities, improve accessibility and safety of public beaches, and the creation and maintenance of an aesthetically pleasing environment . This inconsistency would occur because the proposed budget does not transfer any General Fund monies to the Special Revenue Highway Fund. In light of this fact, Resolution 182-86, Draft 2, has been proposed deleting Item E and reapportioning the $2,100,000 as follows : A. Park Maintenance $795,000 B. Hoolulu Park Complex $215 ,000 C. Aquatics $300,000 D. Police $790 ,000 Your Committee on Finance concurs with the intent of Resolution 182-86, Draft 2, and recommends its adoption.
