COMMITTEE ON FINANCE
Date: November 2, 1988 Re : Comm. 1786
Place : Councilroom
Time: 2: 00 p.m.
Chairman and Members
Hawaii County Council
Hilo , Hawaii 96720
Your Committee on Finance , to which was recommitted Bill 628,
reports as follows:
Bill 628 proposes to amend Ordinance 88-81, the Capital Improvement
Budget for Fiscal Year 1988-89, by redesignating the source of funds
for the following project:
Department of Parks and Recreation
Alae Cemetery Expansion $100 ,000
(110-599-5491 .05-115 )
Funds for this project shall be provided from the Bond Fund Fund
Balance .
It was explained that the reason for the need of these funds is to
acquire additional lands and to prepare this acreage for burial
plots. It is estimated that burial plots at Alae Cemetery will be
exhausted within two years .
Bill 628 was passed on first reading and referred back to Committee
to allow the Committee the opportunity to consider the Alae Cemetery
Expansion proposal in conjunction with the recommendations
accompanying the rest of the available fund balances .
During Committee discussion, it was disclosed that the Alae Cemetery
still has about 2 to 3 years burial inventory. However , it was also
disclosed that any serious effort to negotiate adjacent lands needs
to have a supporting appropriation and allotment of funds .
Your Committee on Finance feels that this project can be considered
during the 1989-90 budget review.
