Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution
No. 399-88, reports as follows :
The purpose of Resolution No. 399-88 is to enlist the support of the '
County Council in urging the expansion and improvement of long-term
care and in-house health support programs for the elderly and the
handicapped in the state and that the State Legislature be
encouraged to enact legislation to carry out this objective.
Your Committee on Finance is aware of the fact that there are
approximately 147 ,000 people or 13 .9 percent of the state ' s
population over the age of 60 and this figure is projected to grow
over the years .
Your committee is further aware that there is an increasing need for
health, social, emotional and personal care services for individuals
requiring assistance in performing necessary daily activities .
Your committee has been informed that the Hawaii Chapter of the
American Association of Retired Persons has expressed its support of
state and local government efforts to expand and improve long-term
care and in-home health support programs .
Your Committee on Finance concurs with the intent of Resolution
No. 399-88 and recommend its ado on.
