Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Bill 463 , reports '
as follows:
The purpose of Bill 463 is to amend Chapter 18, Article 2,
Division 3, Section 18-49(a) of the Hawaii County Code 1983,
relating to taximeters and fares .

Your Committee on Finance is aware that the Hawaii County
Transportation Commission approved a fare increase in taxi fares
after holding a public hearing on December 10, 1987 .
Your committee is also aware of the specific provisions of the
amendment which are as follows :
1 . Initial meter actuation shall equal [one-sixth] one-eighth
of a mile or less, or one minute waiting or elapsed time or
less .
2 . Thereafter, 20 cents for each additional [one-sixth]
one-eighth of a mile or fraction thereof .
3 , Twenty cents for each additional one minute of waiting or
elapsed time or fraction thereof .
Your committee is further aware that the last taxi fare adjustment
was made on April 6, 1978.
Mr . George Correa appeared before the committee and stated that the
taxi operators need an increase in fares due to increased expenses .

Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the intent and purpose
of Bill 463 and recommends that it pass first reading.
