RESOLUTION NO. 266 1
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HAWAII ISLAND
UNITED WAY TO SUPPORT ITS MARKETINGBRANDING EFFORTS.
WHEREAS, Hawai`i Island United Way is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose
mission is to unite people, organizations, and resources to build a healthier community, and has
been supporting human service agencies and organizations on Hawai`i Island since 1967; and
WHEREAS, Hawai`i Island United Way depends heavily on donations from Hawai`i
Island businesses and residents, yet many do not know there is a distinct difference between
Hawai`i Island United Way and Aloha United Way, which is based on Oahu; and
WHEREAS, all donations made to Hawai`i Island United Way will stay on the Big
Island; and
WHEREAS, Hawai`i Island United Way is requesting funds to support its
marketing/branding efforts to promote its name through a variety of media sources in hopes of
increasing donations, which will ultimately lead to greater financial support to partner agencies
and service providers on Hawai`i Island; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports organizations that work with the
community to address alcohol and drug related issues and promote healthy lifestyles; and
WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Department of
Liquor Control to provide a grant to Hawai`i Island United Way to support its
marketing/branding efforts.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Liquor Control and Director of Finance, and that the Director of
Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this
resolution.
