Students in this program will construct a robot to survey the internal conditions existing within the air conditioning duct system and to perform routine cleaning of the ducts to eliminate dust, dirt and mold. REQUEST: Resolution authorizing County (via R&D) to enter into an agreement with Department of Education, State of Hawaii, on behalf of Keaau High School. The funding to provide $5,500 to support Kea'au High School Cougar Tech Robotics construct a robot to clean the air conditioning ducts. The robot will go through the school's air conditioning system to accomplish two things: 1) survey the current internal conditions that exist within the air conditioning duct system 2) perform routine cleaning of the ducts to eliminate dust, dirt, and mold. This invention will make Kea'au High School a healthier learning environment. The prototype can be tweaked, adjusted and manufactured to help other schools in the State of Hawaii that have similar problems with their air conditioning systems. B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): Pursuant to Hawaii Revised Statutes §46-7, the County may enter into agreements with "any public body" with the consent of Council. R & D is requesting that Council approve a resolution authorizing R & D to enter into an agreement with Department of Education, State of Hawaii, on behalf of Keaau High School, a public body, for the purposes of funding its robotics program pursuant to the Solicitation for Proposals Economic Development Grants for fiscal year 2017-18.
